March saw the release of ISO45001, which is now the internationally recognised standard Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
The structure of the standard closely matches those of ISO 9001:2015 Quality and ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems
Because ISO45001 needed to be agreed globally (hence the delay), it brings international recognition to organisations that have established an effective occupational health and safety system as part of their integrated management system.
As BSOHSAS 18001, the original occupational health and safety standard, is primarily based around meeting legislative requirements of the countries where it is operated, it is anticipated there will be little or no changes to the fundamentals of the management of occupational health and safety.
However, additional clauses of context of the organization, leadership and worker participation, planning, support, operation, performance evaluation, monitoring, measurement, analysis and evaluation and improvement must add be addressed in all occupational health and safety documentation.
As with ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015, Independent Advice for Business will begin migrating their clients as soon as practicable and expect to have completed the process by mid 2019.
