For nearly 30 years SP Fabrications (Ollerton) Limited has been recognised throughout industry as a leading supplier of medium to heavy structural steelwork, including plate work and general fabrications
The highest standards are clearly visible in all areas of their work, starting with their drawing office, through to fabrication in their modern, fully equipped workshops and into their dedicated paint shop.
The Assignment
The company approached the Manufacturing Advisory Service in late 2013 to request support on seeking CE Mark accreditation to BS EN 1090:2009 for structural steel and aluminium. Which would become a legal requirement under the construction products regulations in July 2014. After discussions with Independent Advice for Business it was decided to also seek accreditation to ISO9001:2008 to provide a framework for the BS EN 1090:2009 requirements of a factory production control system and welding quality management system.
Making it Happen
The project incorporated SP Fabrication’s existing quality management system which was adapted to meet the requirements of ISO 9001:2008. Dominic Moran of Tech Inspections Limited was appointed as the responsible welding coordinator who provided the welder training and supporting documentation which was incorporated into the main integrated management system manual. An internal audit programme was undertaken and any corrective actions identified were addressed.
Following the successful Stage 2 audit by ALCUMAS, a UKAS registered company, certification was awarded in October 2014.
Benefits
By achieving accreditation to BS EN 1090:2009, SP Fabrications can now CE Mark their fabricated steel products and are well positioned to compete within the new legal framework.
