ISO 9001:2015 requires a continual improvement process. A formal method of process monitoring and improvement is the PLAN DO CHECK ACT or PDCA cycle. The PDCA or Deming Cycle is a process used in many areas of business for the control and continual improvement of processes.
1. Plan
Establish the objectives and processes necessary to deliver your product or service. These are normally set at the management review and SMART targets established. The plan must ensure that the resources provided are adequate to meet the quality objectives.
2. Do
Implement the plan and carry out the process. Establish appropriate monitoring and measurement of the results.
3. Check
Undertake analysis and evaluation of the results. Decide whether the metrics are meeting the quality objectives established for the process.
4. Act
If the results are not meeting the targets take action to improve the performance as necessary.
