Neville Precision Engineering Limited provide turnkey solutions for long length CNC machined aluminium extrusions. The business has grown rapidly over the last 2 years and needed to focus on the next phase of its development as the current model would not support the required future growth.
The key challenges for the business were:
- Being able to breakthrough into established larger companies;
- Organisational design to support future growth;
- Increase size of premises and acquire further capital machinery.
Edward Neville, the Managing Director, invited Kevin Bishop, an associate of of Independent Advice for Business Limited, to support him with these challenges, enabling him to remain focused on the day to day activities of the Business .
Kevin supported Edward in achieving grants to match fund the work required to make these ‘challenges’ a reality.
A key requirement of larger companies utilising SME’s is them having a quality accreditation; Kevin introduced Edward to other associates from Independent Advice for Business Limited to support them in the achievement of an integrated ISO 9001:2008 (Quality) , ISO14001:2004 (Environment) and ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational Health and Safety in 2020). This was completed with little fuss and on 27th November 2013 Neville Precision Engineering successfully achieved accreditation from ALCUMUS Limited, a UKAS registered company, at a cost substantially lower than other quotes.
The organisational design piece involved reviewing current roles and responsibilities and re-modelling to ensure that responsibilities sat with individuals, nothing fell through the gaps and design a suitable staff appraisal system to enable Edward to move away from certain tasks. This is already showing rewards.
To support capital expansion it was agreed that the company would apply for the current D2N2 grant available for capital expansion; this substantial piece of work (Business Plan, future P&L,cash flow and balance sheet projections combined with rounds of meetings) has been completed jointly by Kevin and Edward and will enable the business to acquire the required capital investment to support the future growth that will follow from ISO accreditation.

Kevin has been an integral part in helping the company obtain a D2N2 grant for future capital expenditure, he has allowed what would have been an insurmountable journey for a SME of our size to move forward and navigate around the mine field of grant applications. Neville’s now have a business plan in place for an organisational design to support future growth.
