Asmech Systems Limited is a vertically integrated company that design, engineer, manufacture, install and service their entire product range. Which includes Slat Conveyors, Palletisers, Tray Packers, Loop Inverters and Side Gripper Elevators.

They are a leading supplier of these products, dealing extensively with some of the worlds leading corporations, which allows them to bring to their customers a wealth of knowledge and hands on experience.

They also extend to their customers the personal touch of quick and effective problem solving for their packaging needs.

The Assignment

In order to respond effectively to their growing order book, Asmech commissioned David Dennis and Peter Jones of Independent Advice for Business Limited to introduce Lean Manufacturing concepts to the workforce and identify possible areas for improvement within their current process. The project duration was 10 man days on site, over a period of two months.

Making it Happen

After discussions with management and workforce a Process Flow or Value Steam Map was produced showing the main activities in the organisation and the interaction of materials and information. From detailed analysis of the process 25 areas for improvement were identified initially and some were implemented before the formal completion of the project. Before final hand over the concept of Lean Techniques was reprised to the new Process Improvement Team who will continue to identify areas for improvement into the future.
